According to police a motorcyclist was hospitalized when his Harley-Davidson collided with a vehicle at the intersection of County Line and Lower State roads in Warrington, PA. The motorcyclist, Douglas Swan, 40, was taken to Abington Memorial Hospital where he was listed in fair condition.
Involved in the wreck was Kristine Schreiber, of Warrington, whose vehicle was making a left turn onto Lower State Road when she was struck by the motorcycle.
The incidence of automobile accidents has been rising across the country. Between the deteriorating conditions of public roadways and the increase of vehicles driving the highways this trend is not likely to reverse. The debate continues as to why the rate of motor vehicle accidents has increased but one thing is certain: It is more dangerous than ever to get behind the wheel.
The rate of motor vehicle traffic crashes resulting in death in the United States has risen steadily from 36,254 in 1994 to 39,189 in 2005. Figures for the state of Pennsylvania are just as grim.
In 1994, 1,320 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents in Pennsylvania alone. By 2005 the number had risen to over 1,400. As the number of motorists increases so will the number of fatal and serious auto accidents. Fortunately not all accidents involving automobiles end in death. However, the number of injuries caused by collisions is astounding.
According to a World Health Organization report, for every fatality caused by an automobile accident 13 people receive injuries serious enough to require hospitalization. The injuries sustained in these accidents can range from cuts and bruises to debilitating spinal cord injuries. Aside from the physical injuries numerous car crash victims suffer long term emotional distress. Depending on the severity of the incident a person involved in an accident may become afflicted by post traumatic stress disorder or other life altering anxiety disorders.
Chances are, you may be involved in an auto accident of some kind in your lifetime. Hopefully, you and your loved ones will walk away from the scene uninjured and mentally secure.
