California suit alleges church protected abusive priest
The AP reported (6/30) on a lawsuit being brought by a California man alleging that a priest abused him in the 1960s. The suit claims that Church officials coveredup the abuse by shuffling the priest between three continents over the next 30 years. The lawsuit, filed in the California Superior Court, accuses the priest of having molested children in Italy, Canada and California. The lawyer for the plaintiff, Jeff Anderson, characterized the Vatican and Vatican officials as seeking to protect the abusive priest and their reputations at the expense of these children.
