Cardinal Levada said to have mixed record on adjudicating abuse cases
The New York Times (5/6, A1, Luo) reported about the general practices of the Cardinal William J. Levada, the Catholic Church official in charge of adjudicating sexual abuse cases involving priests all over the world. Levada follows Church traditions in considering cases, giving priests the benefit fo the doubt and only very reluctantly removing them from ministry. Although Levada has been aggressive in examining cases and calling for accountability from Church leaders, this has yet to translate into affirmative action on his part in disciplining priests.
