If Your Insurance Agent Won’t Take the Time, I Will
Depite numerous articles and reminders on this website and my Free Book, The No B.S. Consumer Guide to Pennsylvania’s Confusing Auto Insurance Laws, I continued to be amazed how uninformed consumers are about their car insurance. Buyer beware is the watch word when the State Insurance Commission only requires drivers to carry $15,000/30,000 of insurance coverage no matter how many people they insure or how badly they get hurt. But consider this: a recent case decided in Pennsylvania in June 2008 provides that insurance companies are well within their rights to exclude from coverage on your auto policy if your otherwise eligible for workers’ compensation benefits. Of course, workers’ compensation coverage may provide adequate coverage in many instances, but there are limits on wage loss benefits and you should consult with your insurance agent to determine if you’re financially safe in the event of a serious auto accident that disables you from working.
