Fatal Car Crash Statistics: Were Children Wearing Safety Restraints

Study shows Correlation between adults not wearing seatbelts and children not wearing seatbelts

Studies conducted by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that there is a strong correlation between restraint use of the adult driver and that of young passengers in the same vehicle. This study showed that the probability of being unrestrained was nearly four times greater for infants and toddlers when they were being driven by an unrestrained driver. This undeniable connection between parental influence on safety belt use reinforces the necessity of maintaining ongoing outreach and educational programs for families to encourage the use of seat belt and safety seat restraints. The goal is to develop the habit early on so as adults they pass it on to their children to automatically buckle up.
