Kentucky plaintiffs hope Vatican will “reconnect” with US victims

The AP reports (6/30) on three men who have filed a lawsuit seeking to determine whether the Vatican has any liability in sexual abuse cases against American priests. The attorney for the men, William McMurry, sees this as a chance for the Vatican to reconnect with American victims in a showing of solidarity. However, legal expert see many obstacles for the men in showing the Vatican liable, including showing that US bishops are employees and official representatives of the Vatican at the same time, since it is both a church and a sovereign nation.
