Vatican seeks to block attorney’s attempt to question Pope in Kentucky sex abuse case
As reported by the AP (6/25), a federal judge is considering whether or not to reject an attempt to question Pope Benedict XVI under oath with regards to a Kentucky sex abuse lawsuit involving the Catholic Church. Lawyers for the defense argue that there is no evidence suggesting any involvement of church officials in Rome with the events this case entails, in addition to stating that as a foreign head of state, the Pope should be immune from such impositions. The counter-argument claims that it is matter-of-fact Catholic doctrine that the Pope has the right to control any bishop’s day-to-day activities.
