Seat Belt Study Shows Using seat belts in the rear seat reduces fatalities by 44%

Mandatory Seat belt use and studies for use reducing fatalities

Buckle Up That Seat Belt — Even When Sitting in the Rear of a Vehicle

It is a well known fact that seat belt use saves lives and is mandatory in Pennsylvania. However, statistics show that not everyone is buckling up, especially when they are sitting in the rear. A study performed by researchers of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the University of Granada and the Department of Statistics in Spain shows that rear seat safety belt use reduces the risk of death by 44%. This study also analyzed the probability of death with respect to the seated location at the rear of the car. Their work points out that those passengers who travel at the center or the right side of the inside are less likely to be killed in the event of an accident than those who are seated at the left side.
